WHAT ARE THE PHASES OF RCIA?
There are four phases of RCIA:
Pre-Catechumenate (or Inquiry)
This phase is open to anyone who simply wishes to learn more about the Catholic faith.
Catechumenate
This phase is a more intense period of formation for those seeking baptism or full communion.
Purification and Enlightenment (Spiritual Formation for the baptized)
This phase is the final stage of preparation. Initiation for the Elect is celebrated at the Easter Vigil while the Rite of Calling the Candidates to Full Communion of the Catholic Church can be celebrated anytime during the year.
Mystagogy
This phase immediately follows initiation and reception into the Church.
Each phase lasts as long as is needed to meet the needs of each person. The emphasis is on the individual’s journey in relationship with God.
